The SMACNA-KC Education Committee was pleased to offer Integrating CAD, CAM & EST, presented by Kevin Allen of TSI Software. The program addressed such topics as:
· What is BIM? How does TSI Software fit into this?
· How can Computer Aided Manufacturing improve profits?
· How can 3D coordination effect installation times and pre-fabrication time?
· Material Procurement, Lbs of Metal, Diffuser/Damper Schedules, Bought Out vs. Fabricated, Nesting, Listing, Manpower Schedule, and Cost Breakdown. How can TSI Software help?
· Value Engineering, Design Build, Change Orders, Pressure Class Changes and Round vs. Rectangular. How can TSI Software help?

| ASHRAE 189 Education Program - 10/17/2007

An update on the status of ASHRAE development of Standard 189, the Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, this program was held October 17, 2007. The ASHRAE 189 program was presented by Peyton Collie, a SMACNA National engineer who serves as a voting member of ASHRAE’s Special Projects Committee 189. The Five Topics areas of the proposed standards covered were: • Sustainable Sites • Water use efficiency • Energy efficiency • Impact on atmosphere materials and resources • Indoor environmental quality (IEQ)

| Womens Committee - September 2006 - 9/15/2006
|
Khensa Karim along with co-chairs Cindy Hausman and Karen Harton held another Womens Committee Meeting on Friday, September 15, 2006. The women gathered at McCormick and Schmicks for an enlightening discussion of how to tune into your inner impulses and the inner self.
Guest speaker, Rachel Gordon, who is widely known throughout Europe and the United States, explained to the women that every human being posses a sixth sense to receive energy from the things and people around them. She spoke widely about about trusting your gut instinct and looking inside yourself for answers instead of asking for a response from the stars.
Towards the end of the meeting, a drawing was held to give away two hour long consultations with Rachel Gordon and a cruise certificate donated by SMACNA-KC. | The New Master Format and Your HVAC Business - 9/13/2006

Wednesday, September 13, 2006, Khensa Karim and Terry Harton organized another education program for SMACNA-KC Contractors entitled, The New MasterFormat and Your HVAC Business, presented by Tom Glavinich from the University of Kansas.
Contractors met at McCormick & Schmicks on the country club plaza where they learned about construction specifications institue masterformat background, contract documents defined AIA, specifications defined AIA, "spec" requirements, HVAC bid specification reference manual, HVAC BSRM administrative requirements, technical requirements, project procurement and contracting, project general requirements, and HVAC suggested work categories.

| Wednesday, August 23, 2006, Dennis Sowards from Quality Support Service joined SMACNA-KC Contractors at the Classic Cup to explain the importance of Lean Production in the workplace. Mr. Sowards used many hands on techniques and group activities to display how much time everyone wastes on a day to day basis and what techniques to use in becoming more efficient. |

| Autodesk/Buzzsaw Training - 6/23/2006
|
On June 23, 2006, Bob Konopelski from Big Brain Technologies spent a few hours at SMACNA-KC office testing out the new Autodesk-Buzzsaw databse and training the Safety and Industry Analysis Committee members on the basic functions of the new program. Each committee member caught on quickly and found the program to be an efficient way to communicate industry related information and activities.
The program is scheduled to be implemented by October 2006. |

| Womens Committee - June 2006 - 6/9/2006

On June 9th, 2006, women employed by SMACNA-KC contractors as well as contractor wives gathered at McCormick & Schmicks to dicuss the benefits of eating right. Presenter, Cindy Hausman, wife of Jim Hausman of Hausman Metal Works and Roofing, explained to the women how a healthy diet can lower blood pressure, cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes as well as generally improve quality of life. |

| Association Meeting - National Pension Fund - 6/2/2006
|
| Held on June 2, 2006, at McCormick & Schmicks, William Ecklund of Felhaber Larson Fenlon & Vogt gave a two and a half hour presentation to 24 SMACNA-KC members regarding the National Pension Fund. The discussion consisted of everything from a review of the basics to the building and construction industry rule to definitions of the building and construction industry.
